In this article, I’m going to teach you about the use of positive affirmations for cold sores. Louise Hay is a famous self help author that wrote the bestselling book You Can Heal Your Life.
Louise Hay teaches people how to use positive affirmations to heal from disease.
Here is a quote from Louise Hay, which in my opinion sums up her view on disease and healing:
“Life is really very simple. What we give out, we get back. What we think about ourselves becomes the truth for us. I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for everything in our lives, the best and the worst.
Every thought we think is creating our future. Each one of us creates our experiences by our thoughts and our feelings. The thoughts we think and the words we speak create our experiences.”
What are Affirmations?
Affirmations are simply any positive or negative statements that we make, as we go through life. They can be natural, automatic statements, or they can be statements made on purpose.
In Louise Hay’s book You Can Heal Your Life, she provides an in-depth chart which has daily self-affirmations a person can use to combat specific health issues.
The chart shows three categories:
- Disease
- Spiritual Meaning
- Affirmations
In the example of cold sores, here is what she writes:
- Disease – Cold Sores
- Spiritual Meaning – Festering angry words and fear and expressing them
- Affirmation – “I only create peaceful experiences because I love myself. All is well.”

My Personal Experience using the Affirmation
Years ago, when I still experienced cold sore outbreaks, I learned about Louise Hay’s affirmation for warding off cold sores. At first I thought it was silly and a bit too “New Age” for me.
However, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to try.
I mean, it’s not like it would actually increase my cold sore outbreaks…right?
One night I was at a restaurant with my family and an obnoxious friend that I have known since we were kids.
I was agitated and getting more and more tense from all the sarcasm and people making jokes at my expense.
Suddenly, I realized I was being picked on by the entire group…and it was everyone against me. My blood began to boil.
I was hot with anger, and can you believe it…I started to feel a cold sore tingle on my lip.
I thought about the Louise Hay affirmation for cold sores…
“I only create peaceful experiences because I love myself. All is well.”
I excused myself to the bathroom, got a moment away from all people, I took a few deep breaths, and I quietly said the affirmation a few times.
“I only create peaceful experiences because I love myself. All is well.”
Maybe it was the placebo effect, and maybe it was mind over matter…or maybe, just maybe…the affirmation itself helped to send the right signals to my mind/body, thus preventing the slight tingle from progressing further – to the first stage of a cold sore.
To me, it felt like the mind/body connection was strongly at work.
Conclusion
This affirmation for warding off cold sores worked for me during an emergency. I felt the first little tingle, and knew the skin was about to raise and form a small red bump.
The combination of deep breathing, relaxation, and saying the affirmation saved me from 1-2 weeks of looking horrible and feeling low self esteem from having a cold sore on my lip.
I wonder if saying this affirmation daily could potentially help prevent cold sore outbreaks.
Luckily, that night, which was several years ago, was the last time I even got close to getting a cold sore. I have now been without a single cold sore for over three years. If you still suffer from cold sore outbreaks, perhaps you would benefit from saying this affirmation a few times a day.
It certainly couldn’t hurt.
The key to cold sores is to prevent them from forming in the first place.
