In this article, I’m going to teach you about Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment Medicine.
Viroxyn is a product that used to be available to the public, but now it appears as though you have to be a dentist to purchase it.
Apparently the company got a warning letter from the Food and Drug Administration stating that Viroxyn was violating FDA rules on marketing.
Here is a picture of Viroxyn Professional Use Cold Sore Treatment for you to check out.
Apparently Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment was pretty expensive (and now it’s not available to the public). You can still read Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment reviews on Amazon.com from when it used to be sold to the public.
Luckily, using Bactine for cold sores should work the same due to it having benzalkonium chloride 0.13%, the same as Viroxyn.
Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment Ingredients
Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment contains ingredients that are helpful for healing and treating cold sores.
Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment ingredients include:
- Benzalkonium Chloride 0.13% – Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment
- Benzocaine 7.5% – Pain Relief During Application
Using benzalkonium chloride for cold sores works because it disrupts the lipid coat of the herpes simplex virus, which is what causes cold sores.
By doing this, benzalkonium chloride inactivates the virus.
If you use benzalkonium chloride early on, during the first sign of a cold sore (tingle, itch, burn), you may be able to prevent the cold sore completely, or at least shorten the healing duration by a few days or more.
Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment Medicine – Does it Really Work?
A lot of people have reviewed Viroxyn Professional Use and Bactine for cold sores, both of which contain the main active ingredient (benzalkonium chloride 0.13%).
Here is what it says on the Viroxyn Official Website:
Viroxyn Professional Use provides the best clinical outcome per dose of any Rx or OTC cold sore medication. It utilizes a pharmacology that acts to disrupt the lipid envelope of the cold sore virus, and has garnered considerable attention in Dental Healthcare literature.
In a recently published study, Viroxyn Professional Use was shown to stop cold sore pain for most patients within an hour, and is clinically proven to speed the healing process. Used properly, it reduces time to healing from 10-11 days to only three days (over 70%). The current top-selling OTC brand reduces healing time by only one day (about 10%).”

Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment Medicine – Conclusion
So there you have it…Viroxyn Cold Sore Treatment Medicine really works. It’s not a scam and it’s a product that has helped a lot of people shorten the healing time and reduce the pain of cold sores.
Some people use Bactine for cold sores instead of Viroxyn, since both products have the same active ingredient (benzalkonium 0.13%).
The key to cold sores is to prevent them from forming in the first place.

Tami Fountas says
It is the only thing that I have ever found that actually works
Matt says
That’s wonderful to hear Tami. Super happy for you. And I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment testimonial on Viroxyn. Take care. ????
Matt says
I was told I could no longer get it. I was told it was no longer being made. Is this true.
Matt says
That could very well be. When I researched this article topic, I found out that it was no longer available online, but that you could still get it from a dentist that carried it. Not sure if that has also changed since I wrote this piece.
Stephanie says
Should I use Abreva after using Viroxyn or will it effect the active ingredients?
Matt says
Shouldn’t affect the active ingredients.
Stacy says
This is the only thing that has worked for me. It really shortens the duration of a cold sore. I tried laser treatment and even that didn’t work as well as Viroxyn. What a shame it has gotten so hard to get. Hopefully Bactine really does work as well.
Matt says
The Bactine has the same active ingredient with the same concentration and based on my online research or testimonials, it’s helping a whole lot of people, though not everyone that tries it. I pray that it works very well for you Stacy. ????

When I feel a Cold sore (fever blister) starting, the medication that works best for me is Valtrex (Valacyclovir). This is a perscription drug that stops the development of a cold sore in its tracks. The dosage is 2 tablets when you first feel the cold sore and 2 tablets 12 hours later. This always works for me.
Matt says
That’s awesome, Chris. I wrote an article on the benefits of that medicine for cold sores. I’ll post a link to it for anyone that reads your testimonial and is interested in learning more. Thanks for posting your experience using Valtrex!

We have a Dental practice and put in an order for Viroxyn and our product was never sent and our check was returned. The product works and our patients loved it.
Matt says
I’ve heard great things about it. That’s a total bummer that it’s no longer available. Thanks for commenting here about it, Jeff.
Patrick says
Yes, Viroyxn works within taking the pain away within one hour. I never get a blister while using Viroxyn. The cold sore is gone within 3 days. The problem is I can not get Viroxyn. I bought it from my dentist and he can not get it. Why is Quadex labs not marketing any more. Was it the letter from the FDA? What did that mean for Quadex labs? They had to remove a drug that works because of the FDA? I appreciate your information about Valtrex, regarding the research that has been with high 1 day vs 2 day dosing. I got a prescription from my dentist for the Valtrex, just in case!
Deb says
This product has worked for me for years! I will be so upset if I can no longer buy it!
