herpecin l reviews

There sure are a lot of great Herpecin L Reviews on the internet nowadays, which led me to doing some research on the product to see what all the hype was about.

In this article, I’m going to cover the pros and cons of using Herpecin L for cold sores.

For many years of my life, I suffered from frequent cold sores.

It was horrible.

I would experience psychological issues such as low self-esteem along with shame and embarrassment whenever I went to work or anywhere else in public, knowing that people were likely staring at my gross cold sore in disgust.

All of that is over now, as I’ve been cold-sore-free for over four years (Click Here to learn how I prevent cold sores…).

Now that you know I can relate to your cold sore dilemma, let’s review the OTC topical product known as Herpecin L, a lip balm that is used in the treatment of cold sores.

Herpecin L – Overview

Herpecin L is one of the many topical, OTC cold sore medicines available on the market. Herpecin L works in a number of different ways.

This product is pharmacist-recommended for the treatment, protection, and relief of cold sores (also called “fever blisters”).

Herpecin L Active Ingredients include:

  • Dimethicone 1% – Skin Protectant
  • Meradimate 5% – Sunscreen
  • Octinoxate 7.5% – Sunscreen
  • Octisalate 5% – Sunscreen

Herpecin L Inactive Ingredients include: helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, petrolatum, ozokerite, mineral oil, microcrystalline wax, talc, titanium dioxide, beeswax, melissa officinalis leaf extract, cetyl lactate, glyceryl laurate, flavor, lysine HCI, ascorbyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, pyridoxine HCI, panthenol, BHT.

Note: The inactive ingredient called melissa officinalis leaf extract is actually one of the best natural remedies for cold sore prevention and treatment.

More commonly known as lemon balm, this plant is very popular for cold sores, and my belief is that this ingredient is why Herpcin L works for so many people.

How Herpecin L Helps with Cold Sores

Herpecin L can be used daily to help nourish, protect, and relieve painful cracking of lips. Additionally, Herpecin L promotes healing without numbing or drying (as some products do).

The Herpecin L formulation contains dimethicone for protection, and sunscreens to help guard against the sun’s harmful rays.

UV radiation is one of the top cold sore triggers.

Why?

Let me explain…

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). People typically become infected with this virus from kissing or sharing drinks or utensils with someone that has HSV.

I got the virus when I was a child, because my dad kissed me with a cold sore on his lip, not knowing that it was a contagious virus.

After primary infection, the virus resides in the associated dorsal root ganglion where it lies dormant until an external stimuli (such as stress or immunosuppression) initiate reactivation of the virus from dormancy.

Once you have HSV, you can never get rid of it.

There is no cure…only methods of prevention and treatment.

We need adequate levels of UV radiation from the sun to produce vitamin D. However, too much sunlight can result in a decrease of immune function.

A decrease in immune function can lead to the herpes simplex virus coming out of dormancy and becoming “active.”

Thus resulting in a cold sore outbreak.

Herpecin L contains an SPF 30 lip sunscreen, which is very beneficial for helping to prevent sunburned and chapped lips. I’ve endured a lot of cold sores from going to the beach at mid-day when the UV radiation is strongest.

It’s good to wear a hat, body sunscreen, as well as lip sunscreen if you’re going out in the sun between the hours of 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for more than 20 minutes.

Herpecin L Benefits:

  • Helps prevent sunburn on lips
  • Relieves dry, chapped lips
  • Helps treat and relieve cold sores/fever blisters

Herpecin L Directions:

  • Apply liberally and evenly to affected area on lips at first sign of cold sore and 15 minutes before sun exposure
  • Rub in gently but completely
  • For cracking or dryness continue to cover lips until absorbed
  • Reapply liberally as often as needed and at least every 2 hours when in sun
  • Use a water resistant sunscreen on lips if swimming or sweating
  • Children under 12 years: ask a doctor

Herpecin L Pros & Cons

While Herpecin L has helped many people, it’s by no means perfect. Some people say it doesn’t work for them, while others get side effects from Herpecin L.

Many professionals and specialists in the field of natural and alternative medicine actually believe that the sunscreen ingredients in Herpecin L and most other sunscreen products can be harmful to health.

They claim the only safe thing to use is sunblock such as zinc oxide, rather than sunscreens that soak into the skin.

Herpecin L Reviews Conclusion

As you can see, Herpecin L has ingredients in it that can help in the treatment and prevention of cold sores. However, you’ve probably heard the old saying: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” – Benjamin Franklin.

And since there is no cure for cold sores, focusing on prevention is always the best strategy.

The key to cold sores is to prevent them from forming in the first place.
